BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Barbara Chaiyachati works to bridge the gap between the medical diagnosis and treatment of child maltreatment and the biologic underpinnings of the long-term health sequelae from exposure to maltreatment. Dr. Chaiyachai completed her PhD in Cellular Biology, combining training from immunology and genetics to complete a thesis on basic mechanisms of epigenetics in the immune system. Dr. Chaiyachati then completed her Doris Duke fellowship studying a statewide home visiting program to assess its ability to prevent child abuse. Dr. Chaiyachati now is building her clinical expertise as a Fellow in Child Abuse Pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, aiming to conduct translational research assessing the epigenetic and immunologic consequences of child abuse.
